Malibu surf lessons, taught with an ocean lifeguard's eye

Learning to surf is half paddling and popping up, and half learning to read the ocean. Our lessons cover both. Bryce spent 13 years as an ocean lifeguard on the Malibu coast, so we choose the beach to match the day's swell, tide and wind, and every lesson includes rip current awareness and lineup etiquette.

FAQ

Surf lesson questions

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes. You should be comfortable swimming in water over your head. Tell us honestly how strong a swimmer you are. If you're not there yet, start with swim lessons.

What should I bring?

Swimsuit, sunscreen, water, a towel and a warm layer. We'll confirm whether a board and wetsuit are included when you book.

What age can kids start?

It depends on swimming ability and comfort in the ocean more than age. Tell us about your child and we'll recommend a plan.

What if the waves are too big?

We move to a better-suited beach or reschedule. Sitting out isn't losing.

Ready to paddle out?

Tell us your experience, ages and preferred dates. We'll match the beach to the forecast.
